Greetings,

In this week’s News Feed we’ve got info about getting your U of T identification (UTORid & TCard), the Summer Math Success Program, some updates for International students and
action items to help you prepare for September.

If you haven’t already, please be sure to read your Guide to First Yearfollow us on Twitter and if you have questions and want to connect with us, you can reach us through our Live Chat service.

Note that U of T (including the First Year Office) will be closed on Thursday, July 1 and Friday, July 2 for the Canada Day holiday.

Have a great weekend!

The First Year Team

(JesusMiracle, Leslie, Jennifer, Todd & Brianna)

P.S. Not joining U of T Engineering? If your plans have changed, please notify our Admissions Office at admit@engineering.utoronto.ca.

Get Your U of T Identification

New students can now activate their UTORid (a unique code you will need to access online University resources, including your U of T Email Account), and begin the process of getting your U of T student card (called the TCard), by visiting the TCard
Office website
. You will be able to submit your own TCard photo using the MyPhoto
system
.

When you set up your UTORid, you will have the option to change your displayed first name, which will be the name that your professors will see on their class lists. This is important if you prefer to use a different name than the one listed as your first name
on your legal documents.

Information for International Students

International students can expect to receive a welcome message soon from JesusMiracle Chiadika, First Year Advisor, Intercultural Learning & Experience. JesusMiracle will be sharing tailored information and resources for international U of T Engineering students and ways that you can connect with her this summer.

International students and newcomers to Canada can also check out the Pre-Arrival
& Welcome Services from U of T Student Life

Summer Math Success Program

Want to make sure you’re well-prepared for your math courses in first year? All incoming students received a message this week (actually, more than one message – we apologize for the confusion!) that included a personalized link to Math Self-Assessment Quizzes that you’ll need to complete this summer. These quizzes are worth 5% of your Calculus I grade (not 2%, as previously mentioned in the Guide to First Year).

For those of you who would like an opportunity to brush up on your math, we encourage you to sign up for the Summer Math Success Program. This free, flexible program will be available starting June 28 through the end of August, and gives you a chance to connect with an experienced math instructor who will help you to practice math skills, build math confidence, and gain a better understanding of the math foundations upon which engineering math courses will build.

Learn more and register for the Summer Math Success Program.

P.S. If you feel ready to tackle your first-year Calculus I course this summer, there is still time to enrol in our Early Start APS162H1 Calculus for Engineers I course, which begins July 5!
