In this week’s News Feed we have included details about online course options, a reminder about registration (and what to do if you missed the deadline), and some upcoming events on topics ranging from self-care to study permits.

P.S. Not joining U of T Engineering? If your plans have changed, please notify our Admissions Office at admit@engineering.utoronto.ca. Joining late? If you expect that you may need to arrive late to campus this September, you should complete the Late Return to Campus
Form found in the Engineering Portal, which is being managed by the Registrar’s Office. 

 

Online Course Options

If you are a self-motivated, organized student who enjoys online learning, you can consider registering for our fall semester online courses in place of the in-person versions that you currently see in your timetable on ACORN. The courses being offered online for the 2021 Fall Term are:  

Taking online courses will allow you flexibility in your weekly schedule, but they will still require the same amount of time and effort as in-class courses.

The deadline to switch from an in-person to an online course is September 17

Reminder: If you see a conflict in your schedule (two courses scheduled at the same time/overlapping), are missing a course, or you have a timetable change request of a medical/religious/other important nature please complete our Timetable Change Request Form found here. The deadline to complete this request form is
Thursday, September 2 at 11:59 p.m. EDT. More information about your courses can be found in the

Registration Reminder & Late Registration Process 

Did you miss the deadline to register for the academic year by paying or deferring your tuition fees on August 19? If you missed the deadline, please contact the Registrar’s Office before September 2 to remain enrolled this year.  

If you made a payment on or before August 19, it can take up to ten business days to be reflected in your ACORN invoice, so don’t worry if it’s not showing there yet, but check to make sure it updates before September 2. 

 

Upcoming Events

  • Orientation (a.k.a. F!rosh Week) : Don’t forget to sign up for the optional but highly recommended F!rosh Week, if you haven’t already! September 6 – 10. (Faculty Orientation events on Wednesday, September 8 are open to all, even if you choose not to register for F!rosh Week). 
  • First Year Foundations: Success 101: Join the First Year Office team and friends to discover some of the most important tools you will use throughout your academic career: engineering problem-solving, time-management skills, note-taking skills and effective teamwork strategies. Saturday, August 21, 10:30 a.m. – 12 p.m. (Did you miss our other First Year Foundations programs? Visit the website for recordings and presentation slides.) 
  • ISE Ambassador Drop-in Session: Looking to connect with an International Student Experience (ISE) Ambassador? Attend a drop-in session. Get your questions answered, learn about upcoming events, discover new resources, and more from our team of upper year undergrad and graduate international students. Learn more about the ISE Ambassador Program and other ways to connect. Monday, August 23, 9:30 – 10:30 a.m. EDT.  
  • Moving Forward: Orientation: This orientation program for students with disabilities will be held August 24 (for international students or students living outside of Ontario) and August 25 and will include various sessions to help you navigate U of T, develop learning strategies, use your accommodations and navigate disability on campus while making friends and joining a community.  
  • Canadian Legal Status Orientation Q&As: If you are an international student in Canada, you have to maintain your legal status and abide by Canadian immigration law and regulations. Watch the Orientation Video (45 minutes) and then join a Q&A session with the CIE on August 24, 2:30 – 3:30 p.m. EDT or August 26, 2:30 – 3:30 p.m. EDT
  • Study Permits, Work Permits, Entry Visas, etc. Question & Answer (Q&A) Session: International students are invited to connect directly with a CIE immigration advisor for guidance and answers to any questions that you may have about study permits, work permits, entry visas, and other types of applications to IRCC (Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada). Register for this group advising sessionWednesday, August 25, 9:30 – 10:30 a.m. EDT. 
  • Financial Aid for First Generation Undergrads: Learn about OSAP, awards, financial planning and counselling. Family and friends are permitted to attend as well. Thursday, August 26, 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. EDT. Register online here. 
  • Guide to Self-Care Workshop: At this session hosted by the First Year Office, you’ll have a chance to meet the Faculty’s Mental Health Programs Officer and the Engineering Learning Skills Strategist to learn more about what self-care can look like as a first-year engineering student. Tuesday, August 31 from 10 – 11:30 a.m. EDT. Register online for the Guide to Self-Care Workshop.
