Final Mark Re-Check

For a Final Mark Re-Check, the instructor ensures that no question was overlooked, the addition of marks was correct, and all term marks were calculated correctly. Students must review their exam through the exam viewing, exam copy or exam access services to identify possible mark calculation errors or omissions before submitting a request. The mark errors or omissions must be identified on the re-check request form. Requests will not be accepted unless specific errors have been identified. 

A request may result in a raised mark, lowered mark, or no change. For both re-grades and re-checks, the instructor has the authority to re-grade other questions on the exam if they find it necessary. 

This service should not be used to have an exam question re-graded. Please see the Final Exam Re-Grade service below for details on re-grading specific exam questions. 

Final Exam Re-Grade

For a Final Exam Re-Grade, the instructor will re-grade the exam questions indicated on your request form. For each question you would like the instructor to re-grade, you must include how you believe the question was not graded properly. Any re-grading of your paper will be done in a manner consistent with the rest of the class. 

Students must review their exam through the exam viewing, exam copy or exam access services to identify possible errors to include in the request form. Re-grade requests will not be accepted unless specific errors have been identified. 

This may result in a raised mark, lowered mark, or no change. The instructor has the authority to re-grade other questions on the exam if they find it necessary to do so. 

How to Request

Requests for your instructor to complete a Final Mark Re-Check or Final Exam Re-Grade can be submitted through the Engineering Portal. When completing the request form, students must identify the specific error they want their instructor to review, providing all necessary details within the form itself. It is important that students review their exam through the exam viewing, exam copy or exam access services before submitting a request. The Registrar’s Office reviews each submission to ensure that only valid requests are passed to the instructor for review.  

Note for ECE259: The professor for ECE259 Electromagnetism will administer final exam re-grade and final mark re-check requests separately. Students in ECE259 who are interested in requesting a re-grade or re-check should contact the course instructor directly. 

Fees

  • Final Mark Re-Check: $15.00 per exam
  • Final Exam Re-Grade: $37.00 per course

Payments by credit card can be made through the Engineering Portal. While the fees are non-refundable, if your final grade is changed because of a re-check or re-grade, the fee(s) will be refunded.

Request Timelines

After a request is submitted, the Registrar’s Office will pass the request to the course instructor for their review. A Final Mark Re-Check or Final Exam Re-Grade request typically takes 4-6 weeks to process, depending on the availability of the instructor or course coordinator to review the exam. In some cases, the request may be further delayed if the instructor or course coordinator is unavailable. 

When the re-check or re-grade is complete, you will be notified by email and your updated grade will be displayed on ACORN.
