Faculty of Applied Science & Engineering

Hello,

We hope your summer is off to a great start! This week’s News Feed includes an important questionnaire for you to complete, an update on orientation week, and some upcoming opportunities to keep in mind. And in this week’s Student Blog, Mirjana will let you know what to expect from your classes!

If you haven’t already, please be sure to read your Guide to First Year, follow us on Twitter and if you have questions and want to connect with us, you can reach us through our Live Chat service.

Please note that the University (including the First Year Office) will be closed Monday, June 29 through Wednesday, July 1 for the Canada Day holiday, but we will resume our regular hours on Thursday, July 2.

Have a fantastic weekend, and a happy Canada Day!

New Student Summer Transition Questionnaire

Supporting your transition to university this summer is more important to us than ever. Share with us your areas of concern and help us develop and provide programming that is adaptive and timely for your needs.

Incoming students are asked to complete the New Student Summer Transition Questionnaire http://uofteng.ca/transitionq by Friday, July 3. This questionnaire is expected to take you less than 5 minutes to complete.

Orientation Registration
[Editor’s note: The following is a special message from the student-run Orientation Committee]

You may be wondering, what will U of T Engineering’s Orientation Week (also known as F!rosh Week) look like this year? F!rosh week is going to be held online this year (September 7-13), so you can join the fun from wherever you are!

Registration is now open, and we encourage you to register early so that you can connect with your F!rosh group (#HYPE), and get access to your F!rosh Kit, which will include your (very important) hard hat!

Check out the F!rosh Week social media platforms to stay updated and ask questions.

(Purple) Love,

The Orientation Committee 💜

Upcoming Summer Opportunities

First Year Foundations: Registration is now open for our week-long Engineering Design 101, Computer Programming, and Engineering Math & Problem Solving programs! These online experiences in August are a great way to get comfortable with some of the topics you’ll learn in first year, and to meet classmates and instructors. We are also taking registrations for our free Engineering Study Skills (July 9 or August 13) and Success 101 (July 10 or August 12) sessions.

Early Start: Considering registering in an Early Start course? New incoming students are welcome to take one early start course (either APS162H1: Calculus I or APS164H1: Chemistry from a Materials Perspective) to get a sense of university-level online learning this summer, and earn a course credit towards your first year. These courses will start on July 6, and capacity is limited, so please request enrolment soon online

The First Year Office team periodically updates our Frequently Asked Questions page, and you’re always welcome to email us or use our live chat during office hours for questions that you can’t find answers to.

In addition, given the ongoing pandemic, there are a lot of details still being confirmed for the upcoming year which are being communicated as they are determined. Be sure to monitor your email regularly for official updates, and you can also check the following authoritative pages for current information:
